Week 5 started the championship phase for many teams and athletes. With one month left to go before many conference championships, athletes are starting to round into form and we see who will be the top runners going into this important time during Cross Country Season. Let's take a look at some of the top performers from Week 5.
G'Jasmyne Butler (North Carolina A&T)- finished 1st overall at the Greensboro XC Invitational with a time of 19:23.
Mercy Chebet (Jackson St.)- finished 1st overall at the Major Invitational at Millsaps College with a time of 19:37. She defeated her next competitor by over 30 seconds.
Fred Chepygon- Grambling- Chepygon finished 5th overall at the McNeese State Cowboys Stampede with a time of 20:16 in the 4 mile race.
Mathew Chesum (Benedict)- continues his win streak at he finished 1st overall at the Queen City Invitational with a time of 24:35.It was a dead sprint to the finish as he and the next competitor crossed the line at the same time. They were followed 1 second behind by another runner.
Ashley-Jean Raymond (North Carolina Central)- finished 3rd overall at the Greensboro XC Invitational with a time of 19:58.
Naomi Kiprop- Grambling- Kiprop finished 26th overall at the McNeese State Cowboys Stampede with a time of 19:29.
Regan Kimtai (North Carolina A&T)- finished 1st overall at the Greensboro XC Invitational with a time of 25:13. He led a contingent of A&T runners who scored a perfect score in the Division 1 competition.
Kelvin Kiplagat (Benedict)- runs a PR at the Queen City Invitational to finish 20th overall with a time of 25:58.
Stellah Kiptui (Benedict)- runs a PR to finish 2nd overall at the Queen City Invitational with a time of 18:13.
Levante Williams (Prairie View)- finished 11th overall at the McNeese State Cowboys Stampede with a time of 20:38 in the 4 mile race.
Week 6 looks to be an exciting meet at many HBCU's will compete at the Cedric Walker HBCU Cross Country Challenge in Cary, NC. This is a great opportunity for athletes to compete against others from their conference to see how they stack up.
