Fayetteville State Women and Virginia Union Crowned CIAA Champs

Fayetteville State women continues their dominance of the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) as they defeated Virginia State by 31 points to capture their 3rd straight conference title. The Lady Broncos' top 5 finishers placed 2nd, 3rd, 7th, 8th, and 15th, led by CIAA runner-up Nelly Kandie. The overall race was won by Kyla Frank of Virginia State, who redeemed herself after she placed 2nd in last year's race to Kandie. Frank led the Lady Trojans who finished as runner-ups a great improvement from their 4th place finish the season before.


On the men's side, Virginia Union narrowly defeated their in-state rivals and 2018 CIAA champs, Virginia State 52-59 to capture the CIAA crown. The Panthers were led by Micah Kipruto who came back to defeat the 2018 overall champion Baron Freeman of St. Augustine with a time of 25:20. The Panthers had their top 5 runners place 1st, 5th,12th, 14th, and 20th.Runner-ups, Virginia State was led by Tyrece Huff, who place 3rd overall with a time of 26:25. The Trojans had finishers of 3rd, 8th, 11th, 18th, and 19th.
