As we head into the XC season, these are the top 5 women's teams we believe will stand out the Division II ranks.
1.
FAYETTEVILLE STATE- The defending CIAA is looking to repeat their dominance over the conference. Defending overall champion, Nelly Kandie, looks to repeat and break the 19 minute barrier. She leads a team of two 19 minute runners, as well as three 20 minute runners. They should have another great year as they look to move on to the XC regional championships.
2.
ST. AUGUSTINE- The CIAA runner-ups, they return a great squad of runners who will look to compete for a league title. Returning runner, Amanda Crawford, who is more of a track specialist with a 52.90 400 PR, will lead the squad of two 20 minute runners and three 21 minute runners. They will need some great performance to have a chance at beating FSU.
3.
BENEDICT- The SIAC runner-ups, are a top heavy team which returns the league overall champion, Dawnel Collymore. They have another runner who is has a 20 minute range 5k. From there, they will look to have some more contribution from their 3-5 runners.
4.
BOWIE STATE- Third place finishers in the CIAA, the Bulldogs look to improve on their season and compete for a championship. They return their top runner Cionne Gourrier, who broke 21 minutes last season. However, for them to be competitive in the CIAA, they will need more from the rest of their runners. They have another runner in the 20 minute range who will need to step up at the championship meet.
5.
VIRGINIA STATE- The Trojans return Kyla Frank who was 2nd at the CIAA Championships. She was also the outdoor 1500m and 3000m champion. She looks to continue her dominance on the league. However, she will need some help from her teammates in order for them to move up in the rankings. Her twin sister, Kyera, looks to be the help she needs. She did not compete much last year, due to injury. They will be the 1-2 punch they need to make a run for the title.
