Division I- Preseason Runner of the Year
Frederik Kipyego- Florida A&M
It’s splitting hairs to select an athlete for Preseason Runner of the Year. Four members of FAMU’s roster has run under 24:45 in their careers. To see who would get it, we had to see how they stacked up against top-tier competition. Although his teammate Onesmus Kemboi has the fastest time out of the MEAC (24:29), Kipyego has been more consistent throughout last year. He had a second place finish at the Falcon Classic in Alabama, behind his then-teammate Daniel Too (transferred to Iowa State). He then had a third place finish at the Disney Classic, behind teammates Too and Brian Kiprop. His consistency ahead of Kemboi warrants him as the athlete to beat next year. However, it is up for grabs by at least for 3 other athletes from FAMU.
